About Artist

Connor Newton Releases Debut Mixtape, Who I Am Saskatchewan-born jazz musician turned rapper to release début hip hop mixtape. Connor Newton (under the name Contrafact) will be releasing his debut hip-hop EP, Who I Am, this Monday, October 10. Newton’s début promises to be one of the most honest and self deprecating albums of the genre. The album is steeped in prairie references and Saskatchewan humor, while also maintaining a darkly self-reflective tone through Contrafact’s deeply personal lyrics. The six-song EP was recorded in Toronto and features prominent members of the jazz, rock, and hip-hop scenes in that city. Who I Am is a story of self-discovery through music. The album was the product of five years of jazz education, two universities, three cities and countless mistakes along the way. The lyrics were all written by Newton, and three different producers give the album more depth and variety from track to track. As well as rapping and singing on all tracks, Newton showcases his jazz influence with a saxophone solo on the single, “Who I Am.” The mixtape was recorded over one month in Toronto, then mixed and edited by Newton at home in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The album features vocals from The Faller’s Garrett Olson and Toronto rapper Uggy(Justus Sustus). Other special guests include Austin Jones on trumpet, Alex Lakusta on bass, and Pat Power on guitar.
